ASUS’s first Googlebook laptop is now on sale in Canada, bringing Google’s Gemini Intelligence platform to a featherweight 14-inch ultraportable that starts at $1,799. The machine, model CX9406CAA, began shipping to Canadian retailers over the weekend after pre-orders opened earlier this fall, iPhone in Canada reported. It is the company’s first laptop designed expressly for Google’s new premium platform above traditional Chromebooks.

Two configurations are listed with confirmed Canadian manufacturer pricing. The Intel Core Ultra 5 325 model carries a suggested retail price of $1,799, while the Core Ultra 7 355 version is $1,899, according to an ASUS Canada press release dated Oct. 4. Both include 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 512GB PCIe 4.0 solid-state drive. ASUS says the CNC-machined magnesium-aluminum chassis weighs 0.99 kilograms, measures as little as 10.9 millimetres thick, finishes in Dusk Ash Nano Ceramic and is tested to MIL-STD-810H durability standards.

Despite that thin profile, the display is a 14-inch 3K (2,880 by 1,800) OLED touchscreen with a 120-hertz refresh rate and up to 1,000 nits of peak HDR brightness, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus with a matte anti-glare treatment. A six-speaker system pairs dual force-cancelling woofers with two tweeters, and ASUS fitted a six-point force-sensing haptic touchpad plus a backlit keyboard with 1.5 millimetres of travel. A 70-watt-hour battery is rated for up to 18 hours of local video playback in company testing, the ASUS Canada product page says. Ports include two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C connectors with Power Delivery, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1b, a 3.5-millimetre jack and Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth 6.0.

Googlebook is Google’s attempt to rebuild the laptop around Android continuity and on-device Gemini. ASUS is one of five launch partners alongside Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo. An iPhone in Canada buyer’s guide published when pre-orders opened put Canadian starting prices from $1,299 for Acer’s 14-inch convertible to $1,799 for several aluminum and magnesium models, with Canadian shelf dates clustered around Oct. 4–5. The ASUS unit is positioned as the travel-focused pick: light enough for a backpack, with a larger OLED than Dell’s compact XPS Googlebook.

Gemini Intelligence is the software differentiator. Magic Pointer lets users wiggle the cursor to activate Gemini against whatever is on screen for comparisons, translation, content drafts or suggested actions without jumping between apps. Rambler, tied to a Quick Insert key, turns spoken thoughts into organized notes, summaries and checklists, including when speakers mix languages. Create My Widget builds personalized desktop widgets from natural-language prompts. During setup, passwords, Wi-Fi networks, settings and messages can transfer from a supported Android phone; Continue On resumes phone tasks on the laptop and Cast My Apps streams compatible Android apps to the desktop.

Software bundles try to sweeten the premium sticker. Eligible purchasers receive 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage, plus limited-time trials of YouTube Premium, Adobe Premiere, CapCut Pro, Luminar Photo Editor and GeForce NOW Fast Pass, ASUS said. Retail extras through Oct. 31 at Best Buy include a choice of Pixel Buds 2a or $280 off a Pixel 9a. Through Dec. 31, the ASUS Store is bundling a one-year warranty extension, backpack and mouse, while Staples, Amazon, Costco and Canada Computers are offering gift cards or a Logitech MX Master 4 with purchase, subject to each retailer’s terms.

For Canadian buyers comparing AI laptops this fall, the Googlebook 14’s pitch is less about raw Windows software compatibility and more about staying inside Google’s phone-to-laptop loop with a bright OLED and all-day battery claim. Availability is through the ASUS Store, Amazon Canada, Best Buy Canada, Canada Computers, Costco Canada and Staples Canada.
