Oura Ring 5 is 40% smaller — and its newest market is India. Here's the Canadian picture

Oura launched the Oura Ring 5 in India on Oct. 22, opening pre-orders there through Amazon and Croma, the company announced — the latest step in a global rollout for what Oura calls the world's smallest smart ring. The Ring 5 first went on sale globally earlier this year, and the Canadian picture is now clear enough to price out: the ring, the membership, and one significant feature caveat.

Smaller by design

According to Oura, the Ring 5 is 40% smaller than the Ring 4 — 6.09 mm wide and 2.28 mm thick, weighing from about 2 grams depending on size. It's made from lightweight, non-allergenic titanium with a scratch-resistant coating, comes in sizes 6 to 13 and six finishes — Black, Silver, Stealth, Brushed Silver, a redesigned lighter Gold and a copper-toned Deep Rose. Battery life is rated at 6 to 9 days depending on size and use, with a full charge in about 80 minutes, and the ring is IP68-rated and waterproof to 100 metres, Oura says. An optional charging case, which holds up to a month of charge, is available in Canada through Oura's store at $99 USD.

One warning for upgraders: sizing differs from the Ring 4 and from standard ring sizes, and Oura recommends ordering its sizing kit and wearing a sizer for at least 24 hours before buying — even if you already own an earlier Oura ring.

The health features — and the fine print

Inside, a redesigned sensing system pairs more powerful LEDs with 12 signal pathways, which Oura says produces clearer readings across more finger types and skin tones, feeding more than 50 health metrics in the Oura app. The newest software is Health Radar, designed with more than 40 in-house medical doctors and PhDs, according to Oura. It watches key biometric signals in the background and flags meaningful changes. Its Nighttime Breathing feature gives a rolling 30-day view of sleep-related breathing patterns and disturbances.

Health Radar's centrepiece is Blood Pressure Signals, and the wording matters: it analyses 30 days of nighttime ring data to surface patterns that may indicate cardiovascular strain. Oura is explicit that these are wellness features — they do not measure blood pressure in mmHg, and they do not diagnose any condition. Members can also log readings from a regular blood-pressure cuff in the app to keep actual measurements beside the trend data.

What it costs in Canada — and what Canada doesn't get (yet)

Oura's Canadian store lists the Ring 5 at CA$529 for Silver and Black and CA$649 for the other finishes, with the Oura Membership — required for the detailed insights — at CA$7.99 a month or CA$89.99 a year, and the first month free for new members, according to Canadian pricing checked against Oura's store this month. (US pricing is $399 and $499 USD, with membership at $5.99 USD a month.) The ring is also sold through Amazon.ca, per the same pricing check.

The caveat: Oura's launch materials list Health Radar, including Blood Pressure Signals, for members in the United States, India and the United Arab Emirates — Canada is not on that list, and Canadian outlet WiFi HiFi has reported that some Health Radar features will not be available in Canada. So the feature headlining Oura's newest launch is, for now, one Canadian owners can't use. Oura has not said when that changes.

In India, the Ring 5 starts at ₹39,900 for Silver and Black and ₹50,900 for the premium finishes, with membership at ₹599 a month, according to Oura's announcement there.

What matters

What happened

Oura launched the Ring 5 in India on Oct. 22 (pre-orders via Amazon and Croma), extending the global rollout of its fifth-generation smart ring — 40% smaller than the Ring 4, titanium, with 6–9 days of battery life.

Why it matters

Smart rings are becoming the discreet alternative to smartwatches for sleep and recovery tracking, and Oura is the category's benchmark. Its expansion — and its feature rollout map — shows which markets get the newest health tools first.

What we know

In Canada the Ring 5 is CA$529 (Silver/Black) or CA$649 (other finishes) from Oura's store, plus a membership of CA$7.99/month or CA$89.99/year for full insights. Sizing differs from the Ring 4 — use the sizing kit first.

What we don’t

When Health Radar's blood-pressure features reach Canada — Oura's launch list covers the US, India and the UAE only — and whether Canadian regulators are part of the reason. Oura hasn't said.

What’s next

Watch Oura's feature-availability list. If Blood Pressure Signals and Nighttime Breathing switch on in Canada, the Ring 5's value proposition here changes overnight; until then, Canadians are paying full price for a ring whose headline feature is switched off.
