Amazon has launched a new Fire TV Stick 4K that began shipping Wednesday in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Mexico, Australia and several European markets, with more countries due later in October. Priced at US$59.99, the thinner stick runs Amazon’s Vega operating system with Alexa+ and the latest Fire TV interface. It sits as the core middle tier beside the entry-level Fire TV Stick HD and the premium Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
Amazon says the stick gets users from power-on to streaming roughly 20 to 40 per cent faster than a similarly priced rival 4K stick, with apps launching more than 35 per cent faster and playback starting nearly 20 per cent sooner. Specs include a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, 8 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and support for HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and codecs including AV1. A Direct Power USB cable lets compatible televisions power the stick from a TV USB port, reducing cable clutter.
Alongside the stick, Amazon redesigned the Fire TV Remote with an asymmetric, weighted shape and more tactile buttons so key controls can be found by feel. The Home button now has a distinct metal surface, and a customizable Star button can jump to a favourite app or accessibility setting. The remote is available for preorder as a standalone upgrade at US$14.99, with shipping expected in late October; a backlit Remote Plus with Find My Remote is planned for early 2027.
The stick ships with the refreshed Fire TV experience and Alexa+ out of the box. Amazon says Vega OS now carries more than 2,000 apps beyond Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and Prime Video, including Spotify, Xbox and VLC. For Canadian households replacing aging streaming dongles, the pitch is a faster mid-range 4K stick available now, with the new remote following later this autumn.
