MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Subaru Canada has announced Canadian pricing for the 2027 Crosstrek, starting at $30,695 MSRP and adding a new Hybrid Onyx trim that offers the subcompact SUV’s hybrid system on a lower trim than the top-of-the-line Hybrid Limited, the company said in an Oct. 13 news release.

The six trims and their MSRPs are: Convenience $30,695, Touring $33,895, Onyx $35,395, Hybrid Onyx $36,995, Limited $38,495 and Hybrid Limited $40,495. Subaru also lists an EVP figure for each trim that includes freight and PDI, the air-conditioning charge and maximum dealer and other fees but excludes taxes, licence, insurance and registration: $33,742, $36,942, $38,456, $40,056, $41,556 and $43,552 respectively. Sand Dune Pearl paint adds $300 on select trims.

Gasoline models use a 180-horsepower 2.5-litre boxer engine with a CVT, while the two hybrids make 194 total system horsepower from a series-parallel system with a 1.1-kWh lithium-ion battery. All-wheel drive is standard on every trim. Subaru says the hybrids’ 63-litre fuel tank gives up to 1,000 km of range, based on Natural Resources Canada’s estimated fuel economy ratings, and notes that actual range may vary.

The Hybrid Onyx costs $1,600 more than the gas-powered Onyx and adds a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with navigation. The Car Guide reported that the hybrid cuts Natural Resources Canada’s average fuel-consumption rating from 8.1 to 6.3 L/100 km, though its own tests in colder weather produced slightly higher figures. The trade-off is cargo space: the battery shrinks the area behind the rear seats from 564 to 527 litres, the smallest in the segment, and from 1,549 to 1,433 litres with the seats folded.

Equipment climbs with each trim. The Convenience includes EyeSight driver-assist technology, X-MODE with Hill Descent Control, heated front seats and LED steering-responsive headlights. The Touring adds an 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, Rear/Side Vehicle Detection and the DriverFocus distraction-mitigation system. The Onyx brings black 18-inch alloy wheels, yellow accents, a 10-way power driver’s seat and Reverse Automatic Braking, and the Limited adds leather seating and integrated navigation.

Some features are going away. Subaru says the surround-view 360-degree camera is no longer included on the Limited or Hybrid Limited for 2027. Other changes include an improved wireless phone charger, HYBRID badging in place of the previous e-BOXER badges, and removal of the SUBARU badge from the tailgate. The pricing release did not say when 2027 models will reach Canada’s 96 Subaru dealers.

Among other subcompact hybrid SUVs for 2027, The Car Guide pointed to the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and the new Kia Seltos Hybrid, and noted that the Kia Niro is set to leave the Canadian market after 2026. Demand for the current Crosstrek is strong: Subaru Canada said Crosstrek had its best September and second-best month ever as the brand retailed 7,468 vehicles in September, up 46.4 per cent from a year earlier, according to its Oct. 5 sales release.
