The Block 70 jets carry upgraded avionics, weapons and radar meant to help counter China’s air force, including J-20 stealth fighters. Washington is bound by U.S. law to help Taiwan defend itself despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties; Beijing has repeatedly told the United States to stop arming the island. A U.S. State Department spokesperson said America continues to stand with Indo-Pacific partners, “that includes Taiwan.” China’s foreign ministry did not immediately comment on the landing.
