600,000 without power, 26 energy sites hit: the toll of Russia's night over Kyiv
Zelenskyy says Ukraine got no warning of the ballistic launches — and warns Russia is preparing more strikes.

The aftermath of Russia's overnight bombardment of Ukraine is coming into focus: 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones struck energy and critical infrastructure across Kyiv, the Kyiv region and Kharkiv, Zelenskyy said. More than 600,000 people were without power early Wednesday; 26 power-system facilities and 4 oil and gas facilities were damaged.
The casualty toll is still evolving: Ukraine's Emergency Service reports 3 dead and more than 21 injured, including a child; the Associated Press is reporting 5 dead. All three of Kyiv's combined heat-and-power plants were targeted, and the main power plant hit left five Kyiv districts on emergency outages, according to DTEK. Railway infrastructure was hit in Kharkiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi and Ternopil regions, though the railway reported no casualties.
Zelenskyy added an escalation of his own: Ukraine received no advance warning from Western partners of the ballistic launches — a pointed criticism amid questions about U.S. intelligence sharing after reports Washington threatened cutoffs over Ukrainian refinery strikes. Trump has denied any cutoff. Zelenskyy called for stronger sanctions and more air defence, warning Russia is preparing further strikes. Russia's defence ministry claimed 902 drones downed overnight, via Interfax.
The strikes hit "the very infrastructure covered by the ceasefire announced by the American President," Zelenskyy said — the energy pause Trump claimed, Kyiv never confirmed, and Moscow has now twice ignored with mass strikes.
