Fire TV Stick 4K launches in Canada at $39.99 intro price with redesigned remote

Amazon’s faster 4K stick ships with Vega OS and Alexa+; independent coverage flags manufacturer speed claims and sideloading questions buyers should check.

Amazon’s latest Fire TV Stick 4K is now available in Canada with a limited-time introductory price of $39.99 CAD against a $79.99 list, iPhone in Canada reported on Sept. 30. The company positions the slimmer stick as a quicker path into apps and playback, claiming apps launch more than 35 per cent faster and content starts nearly 20 per cent sooner versus a similarly priced rival 4K stick — figures Amazon cites from its own comparisons, not yet independently bench-marked.

Hardware includes a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, 8 GB storage, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3/BLE, and support for HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG up to 4K at 60 fps. A Direct Power USB cable can feed the stick from a compatible TV port. Software moves to Vega OS with Alexa+ and Amazon’s updated Fire TV interface. Gadget Review notes Dolby Vision is not confirmed on this model and that reports suggest Vega OS may limit Android-style sideloading — worth verifying if you rely on apps outside Amazon’s storefront. A redesigned asymmetric remote (flat top, weighted curve) aims for tactile orientation; the remote is also offered separately for about $19.99 CAD ahead of late-October shipments in Canada.

For households stuck on a sluggish smart-TV launcher, the intro pricing makes the stick an easy swap before the holidays. Buyers who need Dolby Vision or unrestricted sideloading should compare the 4K Max or another platform before committing — and treat Amazon’s speed percentages as manufacturer claims until third-party tests land.
