Best dishwashers in Canada (2026): quiet, efficient picks scored on cleaning, drying and reliability
A great dishwasher cleans baked-on food without pre-rinsing, dries your plastics and runs quietly enough to forget, then keeps doing all of that for a decade, with a warranty and service network that work in Canada.

Most dishwashers clean well with a good detergent and rinse aid. The real differences are in drying (especially plastics), noise, cycle length, rack layout, and how the machine holds up after the first year. In Canada, a solid full-size model with a stainless steel tub costs about $800, and premium Bosch and Miele models cost $2,500 to $2,800. We only included dishwashers sold in Canada, under the model numbers Canadian retailers use, with prices we saw on Canadian retailer pages on 5 October 2026. Canadian prices for premium models are often well above U.S. sticker prices, even before you convert the currency, and Canadian warranties can be shorter. Miele, for example, gives 1 year of parts and labour here, compared with 2 years in the U.S. Half of each score covers ownership: Canadian customer ratings, common faults and error codes, recalls, the Canadian warranty and service. That's why the Bosch 800 Series SHP78CM5N is our top pick. It's the best-rounded tested machine, its CrystalDry system dries plastics better than the others, Canadian buyers rate it 4.6 out of 5, and Bosch is Consumer Reports' top dishwasher brand for 2026.

Overall winner
Bosch 800 Series SHP78CM5N Dishwasher with CrystalDry · SHP78CM5N (stainless steel, Canadian model; Canadian UPC 825225965909). The same model number is sold in the U.S., where Reviewed and Consumer Reports tested it. Other colours: SHP78CM2N white, SHP78CM4N black stainless, SHP78CM6N black (Canadian Appliance Source)
The Bosch 800 Series SHP78CM5N is the most complete dishwasher in the major tests. Reviewed calls it the most well-rounded model it has tested: it removed every baked-on stain, ran fast cycles and dried dishes thanks to CrystalDry, which Reviewed says works especially well on plastics. Consumer Reports recommends it, and Wirecutter found it dried plastic pretty thoroughly. It's 42 dBA, holds 16 place settings and has a flexible third rack. Canadian Appliance Source listed it at $2,494 when we checked (with a 10% Bosch flash sale in the cart until 7 October 2026), and Bosch.ca at $2,499. Canadian buyers rate it 4.6 out of 5 from 4,306 reviews. Bosch's Canadian warranty covers racks and the control board for 5 years and tub rust-through for life (parts only after year 1), and Bosch is Consumer Reports' Best Dishwasher Brand for 2026. It isn't perfect. The touch controls are finicky, some options are only in the app, and at about $2,500 it's a big spend. Pick the Miele G 7216 SCU if you want the fastest, quietest premium clean, or the Whirlpool WDTA50SAKZ if you want strong cleaning for under $800.

Score 8.6/10
CA$2494.00
Price checked October 5, 2026
Pros
- The best-rounded tested pick: Reviewed's top dishwasher overall (it removed every stain in its tests, with fast cycles), and Consumer Reports recommends it
- CrystalDry uses zeolite to turn moisture into heat. Reviewed says it dries plastics especially well, and Wirecutter found it dried plastic 'pretty thoroughly'
- Bosch is Consumer Reports' Best Dishwasher Brand for 2026, and Canadian buyers rate this model 4.6 out of 5 from 4,306 reviews at Canadian Appliance Source
Cons
- Expensive in Canada: about $2,494 to $2,499, compared with the US$1,349 Home Depot U.S. price Reviewed lists
- Reviewed and Wirecutter both found the touch controls finicky, and some cycles and options (Delicate, Rinse, Half Load, Eco) are only in the Home Connect app
- Wirecutter saw no real cleaning gain from the app-programmed PowerControl spray zones, and labour is covered for only the first year
Best quiet
Miele G 7216 SCU Pre-finished Dishwasher with AutoOpen Drying
G 7216 SCU (Clean Touch Steel, front controls), sold in Canada as G7216SCU; Miele article number 12497370 on Canadian listings. The same model was tested by Wirecutter and CNET in the U.S.
Score 8.1/10
CA$2789.10
Price checked October 5, 2026
Pros
- Wirecutter's upgrade pick: the fastest, most thorough cleaner it tested, and the only hour-long cycle (QuickIntenseWash, 58 minutes) that consistently came out spotless
- Very quiet at 42 dBA. Wirecutter said it could barely tell it was on, and the door opens itself at the end of the cycle to speed drying
- Miele has a strong reliability reputation in Consumer Reports' and Wirecutter's owner surveys, and it's ENERGY STAR Most Efficient (about 210 kWh/yr, U.S. data)
Cons
- The most expensive pick: $2,789.10 at Trail Appliances (regularly $3,099), and Canadian stock looked thin
- Only 1 year of parts and labour in Canada (Miele USA gives 2), unless Miele does the installation or you buy during a promotion such as the Perfect 10+ event
- Hardly any Canadian owner reviews, plates load facing forward (some people dislike this), and Consumer Reports rated drying on a sibling Miele 'middling'
Best value
Whirlpool WDTA50SAKZ Large Capacity Dishwasher with 3rd Rack
WDTA50SAKZ (fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, Canadian model; UPC 883049540696). Wirecutter tested this model family as the WDTA50
Score 7.4/10
CA$795.00
Price checked October 5, 2026
Pros
- Wirecutter's budget pick: the best cleaner it tested under US$700, beating several pricier machines on crusty casseroles and smeared glasses
- A stainless steel tub, an adjustable third rack and fold-down tines for $795, with a Heated Dry option that Wirecutter recommends if you want dry plastics
- Canadian buyers rate it 4.6 out of 5 from 7,208 reviews at Canadian Appliance Source, and Whirlpool parts and technicians are easy to find
Cons
- Long best cycles: often over three hours (Wirecutter), and Whirlpool.ca owners report Normal cycles of about three hours
- The loudest pick at 47 dBA, holds only 13 place settings, and isn't ENERGY STAR certified (270 kWh/yr, per Wirecutter and Canadian Appliance Source)
- Only a 1-year parts-and-labour warranty in Canada, and owner reviews on Whirlpool.ca include drain failures, poor drying without Heated Dry, and fragile rack wheels
Best compact (18-inch)
Bosch 300 Series SPE53C55UC 18-inch Compact Dishwasher
SPE53C55UC (stainless steel, Canadian 'UC' model; UPC 825225970545)
Score 7.2/10
CA$1644.00
Price checked October 5, 2026
Pros
- A true 18-inch built-in (17 5/8 in. wide) that still holds 10 place settings and has a third cutlery rack and a height-adjustable RackMatic upper rack
- Quiet for a compact at 46 dBA, ENERGY STAR certified (240 kWh/yr), with 24/7 AquaStop Plus leak protection and Home Connect Wi-Fi
- Same Bosch warranty as the full-size models (5-year parts on racks and control board, lifetime parts on tub rust-through), and Bosch is Consumer Reports' top dishwasher brand
Cons
- None of our main sources tested this model. Wirecutter's 18-inch tests covered the Miele G5482 and Blomberg DWS51502SS, so its performance is Not confirmed
- $1,644 is about twice the price of our full-size value pick, which is typical for compacts
- PureDry condensation drying isn't as strong as the CrystalDry in our top pick, and Canadian Appliance Source shows only 46 ratings

What to buy
Measure first. Standard built-ins need a cutout about 24 in. wide (the Bosch 800 takes 23 5/8 to 24 1/4 in.) and at least 33 7/8 in. high. Measure the depth and the space in front of the cabinet for the open door, especially next to an island. Check whether your current machine is hardwired or plugged in (Bosch sells the SMZPCJB1UC junction box separately for hardwiring), whether there's a shut-off valve under the sink, and how the drain loop or air gap is set up. Then choose by priority. For the best all-round clean and dry, get the Bosch 800 Series SHP78CM5N. For the quietest, fastest premium clean, get the Miele G 7216 SCU. For strong cleaning on a budget, get the Whirlpool WDTA50SAKZ. For an 18-inch opening, get the Bosch 300 Series SPE53C55UC. Before you buy, compare two or three Canadian retailers, since promotions change often. Canadian Appliance Source's Bosch flash sale ends 7 October 2026, and Miele's Perfect 10+ event (a free 10-year warranty or 10% off) runs until 3 December 2026, so ask which offer applies. Ask whether delivery, installation (from about $169 at Canadian Appliance Source), a new supply line and haul-away are included. Register the dishwasher for warranty coverage. To keep it healthy, scrape (don't rinse) your dishes, use a good detergent and rinse aid, clean the filter every month or so, run a cleaning cycle every couple of months, and clear the filter and drain hose before calling for service about a drain error. Prices change often, so check before you buy.
How we chose
We started from current tested recommendations: Wirecutter's best dishwashers (updated 25 September 2026), Reviewed's best dishwashers (updated 10 March 2026), CNET's data-driven best dishwashers (updated 5 August 2026), and Consumer Reports' public summaries of its 2026 ratings (best dishwashers updated 26 August 2026, Best Dishwasher Brands of 2026, and its brand reliability survey of about 77,000 dishwashers bought from 2015 to 2025). Protégez-Vous tested 69 18- and 24-inch dishwashers (recommendations dated 27 February 2026), but its model-level results are for subscribers only, so we couldn't use them. We confirmed each model is sold in Canada under its Canadian model number through Canadian Appliance Source, Trail Appliances, Tasco, Visions and the brands' .ca sites. Each dishwasher gets two scores out of 10. The performance score covers cleaning, drying (especially plastics), noise, cycle times, rack flexibility and efficiency. The ownership score covers the average customer rating and number of ratings at Canadian retailers; recurring faults (drain pumps and E24-type drain errors, leaks and E15-type leak-protection codes, control boards, door latches, rack wheels and rust, poor drying); recalls on Health Canada's recalls site; the Canadian warranty (parts, labour, tub and rack coverage) and how service works here; and, where relevant, the smart app. The overall score is 50% performance and 50% ownership, and each dishwasher gets a reliability verdict: Strong, Average, Weak, or Not confirmed when we couldn't find enough Canadian ratings or owner reports. Owner reviews are anecdotes, not failure rates, so we look for patterns. Canadian retailer review counts are often pooled across sellers and similar models and may include U.S. reviews. We allow no more than two picks from one brand. We list a price only when we saw it on a Canadian retailer page, with the date we checked. Noise ratings are manufacturer dBA figures. Energy figures come from the brand or retailer listing (or U.S. ENERGY STAR data where noted); NRCan's searchable database didn't load for us, so we couldn't check it model by model. Anything we couldn't confirm is marked as not confirmed. Best Buy Canada wasn't checked, Home Depot Canada wasn't checked, and Miele.ca blocked our requests.
FAQ
Which dishwashers are most reliable, and what warranty do you get in Canada?
Consumer Reports' 2026 brand scores, based on surveys covering about 77,000 dishwashers, rank Bosch first, then Midea, LG, KitchenAid, Miele and Whirlpool. CR names Bosch its Best Dishwasher Brand for 2026. About 21% of the dishwashers in CR's survey had broken or stopped working as well as they should, and the most common problems were poor cleaning, poor drying and failure to drain. Most dishwashers sold in Canada have only 1 year of parts and labour. Bosch Canada adds parts-only coverage on racks and the control board for years 2 to 5, and on tub rust-through for life. Whirlpool's Canadian warranty is 1 year. Miele Canada's standard warranty is also 1 year (2 years with Miele installation), but its Perfect 10+ event to 3 December 2026 offers a free 10-year warranty on eligible models. Quebec buyers also get the legal warranty of good working order. Register your dishwasher, keep the receipt, and check Health Canada's recalls site (recalls-rappels.canada.ca) with your model and serial number. We found no current recalls for our picks.
How quiet is quiet enough?
Reviewed's rule of thumb: 44 to 49 dBA is quiet enough for most homes, 38 to 43 dBA is very quiet and suits open-concept kitchens, and 50 dBA or more is a noticeable hum. Our Bosch 800 and Miele picks are 42 dBA, the Bosch 18-inch is 46 and the Whirlpool is 47. Manufacturer figures are averages over a whole cycle, and draining is louder, so treat a difference of 1 or 2 dBA as minor. Stainless steel tubs are generally quieter than plastic.
Which dishwasher dries plastic best?
Plastic is the hard part for every dishwasher. Consumer Reports finds that heated-dry models and models whose doors open automatically at the end of the cycle tend to dry best. Bosch's CrystalDry (zeolite) in the 800 Series did well with plastics in Reviewed's and Wirecutter's tests. Miele's AutoOpen door helps, while fan-and-condensation models like the Miele G5008 left water pooled on plastics in Wirecutter's tests. A budget heated-dry model like the Whirlpool WDTA50SAKZ can get plastics dry, but you have to select Heated Dry, and it adds energy and time. Always use rinse aid, and unload the bottom rack first.
Should I get an 18-inch or a 24-inch dishwasher?
Get a 24-inch model if you have the space. It holds 13 to 16 place settings, compared with about 8 to 10 in an 18-inch, and often costs less. Our Whirlpool full-size pick is $795, while the Bosch 18-inch compact is $1,644. An 18-inch model makes sense when the cabinet opening is 18 in. (the Bosch needs a 17 3/4 in. cutout), or for households of one or two. If you only need occasional use and can't install one, look at portable or countertop models. They hook up to the faucet, but we didn't score them here.
Do I need ENERGY STAR, and how much does it matter?
It's a useful signal, but not a deal-breaker. Since the 2023 criteria update, a standard-size ENERGY STAR dishwasher has to use no more than 240 kWh a year and 3.2 US gallons per cycle. The Bosch picks qualify at 240 kWh/yr, the Miele is ENERGY STAR Most Efficient at about 210 kWh/yr (U.S. data), and the Whirlpool isn't certified (270 kWh/yr). The yearly cost difference is usually small, since Canadian Appliance Source estimates about $34 a year for the Bosch 800. Any modern dishwasher uses less water than washing by hand. Check NRCan's EnerGuide listing or your provincial utility for rebates before you buy.
